Integrated Aluminium Complex
|
The huge aluminium complex of Portovesme (Sardegna) was built between 1969 and 1972 by EFIM state company to plug an upcoming unemployment wave caused by the ceasing mining activity in the Sulcis region. Today the site is owned by many private companies, producing: alumina (aluminium oxide), primary aluminium, zinc, lead, gold, silver and sulphuric acid. Two large oil/coal power stations are included in the industrial area.
